An unshaven hair transplant aims to retain hair length in selected areas, but the label can describe different shaving arrangements. Donor preparation, recipient preparation and graft length should be explained separately. At HCT, raise your preference during assessment and request the exact arrangement before confirming treatment.

Make the wording specific

DescriptionWhat to clarify
Partially shaved donor areaWhich donor zones are trimmed and how surrounding hair is managed
Unshaven donor areaWhether individual target hairs are trimmed during collection
Unshaven recipient areaWhether existing hair in the treatment area is left long
Long-hair transplantationWhether long shafts are retained on the transplanted grafts

These are different descriptions, not interchangeable promises. Keeping recipient hair long does not by itself confirm an unshaven donor area.

Separate hairstyle from method

  1. 01

    No: they answer different questions

DHI refers to implantation terminology. Unshaven describes hair preparation. Ask about both rather than using one label to infer the other.

    Understand DHI terminology
  2. 02

    Request precise shaving terms

The ISHRS distinguishes donor, recipient and implantation arrangements. Some unshaven FUE workflows still trim individual target hairs; long-hair grafts are a separate description.

    Confirm the actual offer

This guide explains options to discuss, not a promise that every arrangement is available or suitable. Ask which arrangement the team proposes specifically for you.

Bring your real-life priorities

Your hairstyle

How you normally wear it

Describe your current hair length, parting and preferred style. Ask the team to identify any trimmed area clearly before you agree to the proposed arrangement.

Your calendar

Work and travel plans

Mention important events or return-to-work expectations. Ask for recovery guidance specific to your procedure; keeping some hair long is not a guarantee that treatment will be unnoticeable.

Your priorities

What matters most to you

Explain whether avoiding a full shave is essential or a preference. Ask what alternatives the team would recommend if that preference cannot be accommodated.

Practical limitations

  1. 01

It does not make transplantation non-surgical

Swelling, scabbing and small scars can still occur. Unshaven is not a promise of an invisible procedure or immediate return to every activity.

    NHS: recovery considerations
  2. 02

It does not promise immediate lasting growth

Transplanted shafts may shed before regrowth, even when long hair is retained. Ask for washing and combing instructions for the agreed arrangement.

    ISHRS: long-hair implantation and care
  3. 03

It does not replace clinical assessment

Bring your treatment history and questions. The assessment should address whether transplantation is appropriate before a hairstyle preference determines the discussion.

Individual written pricing

HCT has not published a separate unshaven price range in its current technique table. Request a written quote for the assessed plan instead of treating another technique’s range as an unshaven offer.

  1. 01

    Describe the scope

Ask the quote to name the collection and placement approach, the shaving arrangement and the proposed treatment area.

  2. 02

    Confirm the final total

Ask whether the requested preparation arrangement affects the quote, and have any difference stated explicitly. No unshaven supplement is assumed here.

  3. 03

    Check the package separately

Confirm travel, accommodation and follow-up inclusions in the written proposal.

Questions, answered

Contact the team

Not necessarily. Ask for the exact donor and recipient preparation plan, including whether individual target hairs or small areas will be trimmed.

No promise of concealment should be made. Ask what the proposed arrangement may look like during recovery and discuss your work or social plans before booking.

An early appearance is not the settled result. Discuss expected shedding, growth and review timings with the care team; do not treat retained hair length as a guarantee of lasting immediate coverage.

No separate supplement has been published in the supplied HCT price table. Ask for a quote for your agreed arrangement and confirmation of any additional charge before booking.

  2. 02

    The location of your appointment

HCT lists a branch office and a medical centre. Confirm which address applies to each appointment.

Let’s discuss the preparation plan.

Tell us what keeping your current hairstyle means to you. Ask for a specific explanation of the proposed arrangement and its limitations.

Availability, suitability and costs are confirmed individually after assessment.
